All are welcome to tour Fields Neighborhood’s gardens, nature preserve and other innovative environmental land preservation solutions. Come dwell in possibility as you walk the self-guided two miles of nature preserve trails along Honey Creek, enjoy the community vegetable gardens or take in the beautiful native prairie gardens surrounding the award-winning green built housing.
The subtle tones of the prairie gardens at Fields Neighborhood include more than 8,500 plants with over 100 distinct flowering and grass species native to southeastern Wisconsin. American Columbine, Cream Wild Indigo, Pale Purple Coneflowers, Golden Alexanders, Foxglove Beard Tongue and Wild Quinine are just some of the native plants you will find in the neighborhood gardens.
Adding to the beauty is the Flowforms waterfall handcrafted sculptures that spill into a pond area featuring native water plants.
The large prairie style plantings are used to demonstrate the beauty of flora and ornamentals organized based upon the site’s hydrology which includes wetlands that function as rain gardens, slowing and infiltrating storm water before it reaches Honey Creek.
To learn more about and view additional garden and farming innovations, take the quarter mile marked trail west to visit neighboring Michael Fields Agricultural Institute. There you will find dynamic greenhouses and gardens where you can learn about biodynamic gardening from the country’s foremost experts.
Fields Neighborhood is committed to working in tune with nature to support its preservation and fostering its natural beauty to enable generations to enjoy all that the land has to offer. Come experience the life you’ve imagined at Fields Neighborhood.
