Design Coalition Inc. is Wisconsin's only full-time non-profit architectural and planning office, a Community Design Center.
We don't work for profit; we have always sought ways to serve a greater community good through our professional practice. We work with our clients for a successful project, and for positive change.
Design Coalition projects, are some the most progressive housing in the community. There is a serious need in many communities for more affordable housing units, more suitable housing for the changing nature of households (more single-parent families, elderly, homeless, single adults), and for development designed to promote community formation.
Our work in housing has included apartments, cooperative housing, and self-help condominiums. We've designed various forms of special needs housing: for residents who have developmental or physical limitations, for the elderly, transitional housing for the homeless and for victims of domestic abuse.
CoHousing: For the last decade we have been working to develop cohousing, a form of resident-managed and owned housing with shared common facilities. We provide pre-development and architectural services to CoHousing groups in starting their own 'custom-designed neighborhoods'. Village Cohousing, completed in late 1999, is an example of this type of community living.
